More than 200 people braved the chilly weather this past Sunday for the Coldest Night of the Year Sarnia Bay event, raising more than $50,000 towards two new Habitat for Humanity home builds in Sarnia-Lambton.

“We were so happy to see such a strong turnout for our event this year,” said Habitat for Humanity Sarnia-Lambton CEO David Waters. “Members of Sarnia-Lambton rose to the occasion again to help raise funds for our event and our build program.
“We want to thank all of the local businesses including Finch Lincoln, Smith Funeral Home and Family Centre, Classic Granite and Marble, Bluewater Home Hardware, & Carpenters Union Local 1256 for their support and everyone who helped make this year’s event such a big success.”

This marked the second year that Habitat for Humanity Sarnia-Lambton hosted one of the national fundraising walks put on by Blue Sea Foundation out of Kitchener.
More than 180 events took place across Canada this year with a national goal of $12,000,000. At the end of the day, a total of $12,400,051 was raised for 182 Canadian charities.

Locally, Habitat for Humanity Sarnia-Lambton surpassed its with a goal of $40,000, raising a total of $51,597, towards the building of two safe and affordable homes in 2023 on Emma Street in Sarnia.
