Clean Harbors reverses decision

Published on

A U.S.-based hazardous waste company has reversed its decision to truck contaminated soil originally from New York’s infamous Love Canal to its disposal site near Corunna.

Clean Harbors said it would instead send the waste to one of its U.S. landfills, an official told St. Clair Township last week.

The decision came shortly after Sarnia Mayor Mike Bradley asked Lambton County to hastily convene a meeting to discuss the shipments.

Clean Harbors hopes to expand the local landfill to continue operations another 25 years but needs provincial government approval.
