Surveillance cameras will be switched on shortly at the Children’s Animal Farm to deter vandalism at the popular attraction.

Hughes Intelligence Security Services is donating the cameras, which will be installed by mid-September, City Hall said Thursday.

The company has also committed to providing overnight security patrols of the property seven days a week.

“This will be a great deterrent to those causing mischief and damage,” the city said in a release.

The animal farm in Canatara Park has been the scene of ongoing vandalism. Most recently, someone broke in and cut a door lock, releasing more than 40 peacocks, pheasants, ducks, geese, turkeys and chickens the morning of July 18.

The farm is owned by the city and operated by the Sarnia & District Humane Society.

Hughes’ donation was made through the Seaway Kiwanis Club Sarnia Children’s Farm Foundation.
