Sarnia weightlifter Boady Santavy won a silver medal in Italy last week.
The 22-year-old Commonwealth Games medalist finished second in the 96kg category at the recent 2020 Roma World Cup.
His father and coach Dalas Santavy, has said the goal is for Santavy to contend for a medal at the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo, Japan.
Craig Walker, President of the Canadian Weightlifting Federation, was impressed with Team Canada’s results in Rome, Inside the Games reported.
“As a team we are looking for consistent, incremental improvements leading up to the final qualification events in April.”
Santavy won three bronze medals for Team Canada at the Pan American weightlifting championships last year, and won silver at the 2018 Commonwealth Games.
