Sarnia-Lambton MPP Bob Bailey is demanding Ontario take action following another tractor-trailer accident on Highway 402 in Sarnia.

“It is unacceptable that these accidents continue to happen in the exact same manner, in the exact same location on this stretch of provincial highway,” Bailey stated in a letter to Transportation Minister Kathryn McGarry.

On Feb. 21, a westbound transport truck collided with a second truck stopped and waiting to cross the Blue Water Bridge near the Christina Street exit ramp, driving it into a third truck.

One driver suffered minor injuries and a 53-year-old was charged with careless driving.

Bailey said the province should fund a dedicated unit of OPP officers to conduct patrols, and consider turning a former MTO inspection station on Highway 402 east of the city into a staging area for trucks.

The ministry said in November it was reviewing the highway’s safety following two serious trucking accidents last summer in the same spot.
