What’s happening at this month’s First Friday walkabout

Below is a partial lineup of activities, visual arts and live music scheduled for the First Friday cultural walkabout Aug. 3 in downtown Sarnia.

Many shops other than those listed below are open till 9 p.m.

Parking downtown is free after 6 p.m. on the street, parking lots and at Bayside Centre.

 

JUDITH & NORMAN ALIX ART GALLERY – 147 Lochiel St. 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Opening of painting exhibition, John Kissick: The Boom Bits.  Artist will be present. Also the larger-than-life sculptures and entwined drawing of Jamie Angelopoulos.

 

ARTOPIA GALLERY & FRAMING – 188 Christina St N – 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. – Back by popular demand, Lynn Eves of the Bluewater Center for Raptor Rehabilitation brings a variety of “bird friends.” Canvas handed out to create your favourite birds, which will be sold at October’s First Friday. All proceeds to the Centre.

 

COFFEE CULTURE – 130 Lochiel St. – 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. – Live music.

 

THEMPTATIONS – Hemp Goods and Culture Shop – 180 Christina St. N. – Featuring artist Mic Vilhan till 9 p.m.

 

CHEEKY MONKEY – 130 Christina St. N – 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. – Very special performance by Sarnia-Lambton singer-songwriter Emm Gryner. New original art show & sale “Escape” by Bill Walters.

 

ROYAL CANADIAN LEGION, BRANCH 62 – 286 Front St N. – 8 p.m. to midnight – Music and dancing with the Borderlite Trio.

 

 UPS N’ DOWNS – 226 Front St N – 9 p.m. – 1 a.m. – featuring live music with Bil Eldridge.

 

LAWRENCE HOUSE CENTRE FOR THE ARTS – 127 Christina St. S – Opening of “Artisans on the Lawn,” which will continue on Saturday.  Music starts 5:30 p.m. with Sherry Abram, continues with Blackmore and Blackmore from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m.  Member’s art exhibition 5:30 – 9 p.m.

 

VANILLA BEAN – 138 Cromwell St. – Live entertainment 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. with vocalist/guitarist Hazel Pretty.

 

REFINED FOOL – 137 Davis St – Caitlyn Jean exhibits new body of abstract paintings that explore the cyclical nature of life.

 

COME UNITY – 123 Christina St. N. – More than 15 local artists and artisans featured, extended hours, 10 a.m. – 9:00 p.m. – Wall art, stained glass, soy candles, crystal lamps, etc.

 

CAFE YOGA: Sarnia Reiki, Meditation & Yoga – 150.5 Front St. N. Suite 7 – 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. – “Into The Woods” art exhibition by Tara Dimuzio.  Live piano & guitar with Andrea Max.

 

SILHOUETTES – 125 Christina St. N – 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Live Mannequins in the windows.

 

COWBOYS & INDIANS – 121 Christina St. N – Open till 9 p.m. with beadwork demonstration by Anishinaabekwe artist Tawny Daws.

 

BAD DOG SARNIA – 229 Christina St N – 8 p.m. to midnight, live entertainment by Bren Dubé.
