The Sarnia Journal is looking to hire a full-time journalist to join our growing team.
We’re looking for someone who shares our passion for local, independent journalism as we continue our commitment to providing quality, daily news coverage in Sarnia-Lambton.
- Conduct thorough research, interviews and investigations to gather information for news stories.
- Generate article ideas and pitch stories that are relevant to the local community.
- Write and edit clear, accurate and engaging articles within assigned deadlines.
- Cover various beats such as politics, education, local events, community issues, etc.
- Attend events, press conferences and community meetings to gather information and build relationships with key stakeholders.
- Stay up-to-date with local news, trends and developments.
- Collaborate with photographers, editors and other journalists to produce high-quality content.
- Adhere to ethical standards and journalistic principles.
- Bachelor’s degree in journalism, communications, or a related field is an asset but not necessary if relevant experience can be shown.
- Strong writing, editing and proofreading skills.
- Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
- Solid understanding of journalistic ethics and principles.
- Proficiency in digital tools and technologies related to journalism (e.g., content management systems, social media platforms, multimedia storytelling)
- A strong passion for local news and community issues.
