Sarnia and Point Edward are reopening their waterfront parking lots and washrooms today at 12 noon.

At Canatara Park, the beach parking lots and washroom at the beach pavilion will reopen for the season, with the washrooms available from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. daily, the city said.

The washrooms near the Animal Farm, which have been open throughout the state of emergency, will be available 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. daily.

The west entrance to Canatara Park and the roundabout near Sandy Lane are closed for roadwork, but the Christina Street entrance is open.

The roadwork began June 1 and is expected to take four weeks.

At Centennial Park, the Agora washrooms will be open for use from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. daily.

Point Edward is reopening the municipal parking lots under the Blue Water Bridge at noon today.

The parking lot washrooms are undergoing scheduled renovations and won’t be available until later next week, but portable toilets are available there.
The washrooms at the Splash Pad will remain closed at this time, as will the washrooms located in front of the Lambton Area Water Supply System.
All other park washrooms will stay closed in both communities.

The popular parking lots used by resident and tourists alike have been closed since March 18 when Sarnia and Point Edward declares states of emergency in response to COVID-19.

Other amenities including playgrounds, outdoor exercise equipment, splash pads and swimming pools will remain closed to the public for now.

While easing the restrictions, the city and village asked residents today to continue using all safety measures, including physical distancing and frequent hand sanitizing, to stop the spread of the virus.
