UPDATE: SIU investigating after woman struck by OPP vehicle

Ontario’s Special Investigations Unit (SIU) is seeking witnesses after an 82-year-old woman was struck by a police vehicle being operated by an Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officer in Corunna, Wednesday.

The was taken to hospital with serious injuries.

Police on scene at the intersection of St. Clair Parkway and St. Clair Boulevard.

A spokesperson with the SUI said the incident occurred around 12 noon when the Lambton OPP officer was traveling westbound on St. Clair Boulevard.

"Upon turning southbound on St. Clair Parkway, the police vehicle collided with an 82-year-old woman," spokesperson Monica Hudon said. "The woman was transported to hospital for treatment of a serious injury."

Two SIU investigators and one forensic investigator have been assigned to the case, along with three witness officials and one subject official.

The Ontario Provincial Police West Region posted on Twitter late Wednesday that the intersection of St. Clair Parkway and St. Clair Blvd. had been closed “for a short time this afternoon for a motor vehicle collision.”

The SIU conducts investigations of the circumstances around serious injuries, allegations of sexual assault, firearm discharges at persons, and deaths in cases involving officials — including municipal and provincial police officers.
