Tara Jeffrey Four new cases of COVID-19 are being reported for Sarnia-Lambton in the latest update from Lambton Public Health, posted late Thursday. That brings the total number of infected to 331, with 13 active cases, and no new recoveries in the past 24 hours. An active outbreak of the virus declared this week at a Sarnia-Lambton workplace remains in effect and involves four cases. Workplaces will only be named if "public notification will help to identify additional close contacts that cannot be determined through contact tracing," the health unit said. Workplace outbreaks are declared when two or more employees test positive for COVID-19 within a reasonable timeline to suspect transmission in the workplace, the health unit states. "In this situation, Public Health will isolate cases, test and isolate those who have been exposed, and implement changes to reduce risk of transmission."

Locally, a total of 19,889 tests results have been processed since the pandemic began, and 25 people have died.

Bluewater Health currently has no COVID-19 patients, and no one has been treated at the hospital or tested positive for the virus there since mid-June. As of Thursday, 18 patients were in hospital with tests pending for COVID-19 (includes pre-surgical screening).

This week, the Town of Petrolia joined the City of Sarnia in passing a mandatory mask bylaw for indoor, public spaces. The county's remaining municipalities remain without mask mandates. Plympton-Wyoming voted against mandating masks at a Wednesday meeting.

Ontario recorded 78 new cases Wednesday (though numbers for Toronto Public Health were not available).

Public health safety measures include staying home when sick, practicing physical distancing with others outside your social circle, use good hand hygiene, and wearing a mask if required or if physical distancing is not possible.
