A fire that ripped through Sarnia’s Fairwinds Lodge retirement home Sunday night has been deemed ‘accidental,’ officials said late Wednesday.

“The Ontario Fire Marshal Fire Investigations Services have concluded the onsite investigation into the origin and cause of the fire which occurred at Fairwinds Lodge on Sunday evening,” chief prevention officer Roel Bus said in a news release. “The fire is classified as 'accidental' while the OFM is still considering two separate ignition sources."

One-third of the three-storey home went up in flames Sunday night, prompting evacuation of all 120 residents and, by all reports, triggering one of the most well-organized emergency responses in the city’s history. No injuries were reported.
