The United Way of Sarnia-Lambton has surpassed its $2 million target for 2017.

With donations still trickling in, the umbrella fundraising organization expects to reach $2,010,000 by year-end, ensuing all 35 programs and services it funds will continue.

“What a difference three weeks can make. We were behind the eight ball much of this campaign and the goal didn’t look possible,” said campaign chair Vicky Ducharme.

But the campaign team didn’t give up and a number of late events pushed donations over the top, she said.

Ducharme thanked all the donors, volunteers, sponsors, industries, labour groups and local media for their support.

“I can’t pinpoint one area that pushed us to our goal,” said executive director Dave Brown.

“It was truly a combined effort.”
