Two new cases, but local infection rate continues to fall

Two more people have tested positive for COVID-19 in Sarnia-Lambton, raising the total number of known cases to 270, Lambton Public Health said this morning.

One of the two new cases is a worker at Vision Nursing Home, which has been struggling to contain an outbreak since April 23.

Twenty-seven staff members and 26 residents of the Wellington Street long-term care home have now contracted the virus. Ten residents have died, including the most recent fatality reported Sunday at Bluewater Health in Sarnia.

Sarnia senior home residents now account for 16 of Sarnia-Lambton’s 25 deaths.

Three more people were declared virus-free, bringing the total number of recovered to 226. Overall, the number of active cases continues to decline and has now reached its lowest level since late March.

More than 8,000 test results have been received, with 3.3% o them positive.
