Trio charged with murder in death of 76-year-old assault victim

Sarnia Police have charged with three people with second-degree murder in the death of a 76-year-old city man.

Police responded to an assault call shortly before 3 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 30 in the 100 block of College Avenue North.

The victim, James “Jim” Wilson, 76, was taken to hospital and later pronounced dead of his injuries.

Three people were taken into custody shortly after and they have now been charged with second-degree murder, police said today.

They are:

Destiny Star Phillips, 26, of Sarnia

Brandon Michael Knight, 24, of Sarnia

Donald Albert Shawanoo, 57, of Sarnia

“This was an isolated incident and the persons involved were familiar with each other,” police said in a release today.

North College Avenue had been closed off to the public but has now reopened.
