Track athletes win 8 medals at Ontario championships

Sarnia’s high school athletes again did the city proud at the 2017 OFSAA Championships, held in Belleville June 1-3.

Several podium finishes were had including a pair of golds for Northern Collegiate, with Avery Smiley, finishing the midget men’s 100 metre hurdles in 14.12, and Sebastian Smith taking the senior men’s high jump with 2.05M.

St. Patrick’s Ella Sottosanti rounded off a successful season with a silver in the midget women’s high jump with 1.55M, just narrowly missing gold, which was won with a height of 1.58M.

Two athletes from Alexander Mackenzie also left their mark with a pair of bronzes. Abbey LeBlanc took third in the 200 metre wheelchair dash, and Josh Grondin followed suit in the 800 metre ambulatory run.
