Track athletes fare well at nationals

Two local athletes won silver medals at the Canadian Track and Field Championships in Ottawa.

Two local athletes won silver medals at the Canadian Track and Field Championships in Ottawa.

Northern Collegiate graduate Andrew Davies, competing as a member of the Windsor Legion Track and Field Club, won a silver medal in the men's junior (under-20) 5,000-metre event.

The recent Stefanko Award winner is preparing to attend McMaster University in Hamilton.

Petrolia’s Marissa Mueller, of the Sarnia Athletics Southwest Track & Field Club, also brought home a silver medal, in the junior women's javelin.

Other members of Sarnia Athletics Southwest Track and Field Club who competed at July 3- 8 meet:

Jillian Drouin - 4th – senior women’s shot put, 5th – high jump, 16th - 100 hurdles.

Zion Webb – 4th - junior men’s discus, 12th - shot put

Johnny Vanos – 5th – junior men’s discus, 8th – hammer throw, 10th - shot put

Matt Boyce – 8th – junior men’s discus

Greg Ross – 13th – junior men’s javelin

Brittany Simon – 10th – senior women’s 400 metre
