With local school children now back in class Sarnia Police are reminding drivers of their responsibilities on the road.
When approaching an intersection at which a crossing guard is helping kids cross you must come to a complete stop and not move until the crossing guard and all children have totally cleared the roadway. (Fine of $180 and three demerit points).
Motorists must also complete stop completely when approaching a school bus with its stop sign out and red stoplights activated. Moving before the stop arm is retracted and the lights turned off can result in a fine of $490 and six demerit points.
City police also remind drivers that cyclists of all ages must be given one metre of clearance when passing. ($110 fine and two demerit points)
