Taekwondo athlete earns bronze in Italy

A Sarnia athlete secured a bronze medal at the European Masters Games recently. Mark Warburton, 38, made the podium in the taekwondo 80 kg category at the Turin, Italy games held July 26 to Aug. 2.

A Sarnia athlete secured a bronze medal at the European Masters Games recently.

Mark Warburton, 38, made the podium in the taekwondo 80 kg category at the Turin, Italy games held July 26 to Aug. 2.

The co-owner of Sarnia Olympic Taekwondo and national-level coach competed among 250 fighters in the taekwondo showcase. The multisport games for athletes 35 and older hosted 8,000 athletes from Europe, Africa, Asia and Pan-American continents, he told the Journal.

The six-foot-tall fighter, who has dual-citizenship with the United Kingdom, plans to compete at the British National Championships in November and the European Taekwondo Masters Championships in Dublin, Ireland in December.
