Some 79% of high school students in the Lambton Kent District School Board feel safe at school most of the time, and 62% believe their school is a welcoming place.

On the other hand, 94% of staff and 90% of parents feel their school is welcoming.

The numbers come from a board-wide “school climate” survey conducted in April. A total of 8,356 students in Grades 4-12 took part in the online surveys, along with 1,674 parents and 693 staff.

The survey found 67% of high school students are happy with life and 93% have one close friend they can trust.

Educators will use the data to develop student support plans.
