Strong show of support for Muslim community

Published on

Around 300 people gathered at Sarnia’s mosque on London Line Wednesday night for an Interfaith Solidarity and Open House event hosted by the Sarnia Muslim Association.

The event was held to honour those killed in a deadly shooting at a Quebec mosque last month, and show support for Sarnia’s Muslim community.

“We’re just shocked and thrilled at the turnout,” said Aruba Mahmud, education and outreach secretary for the Muslim Association, pointing to an overflow of guests who lined up outside to attend.

Speakers included Sarnia-Lambton MPP Bob Bailey, Mayor Mike Bradley, Sarnia Police Chief Phil Nelson, members of the Unitarian Fellowship of Sarnia & Port Huron, and others.
