A city bylaw that permits overnight seasonal parking on residential streets has been extended by one month.

Starting next year, automobiles and motorcycles will be allowed to park on the street at night between April 1 and Oct. 31.

The rules, which began as a trial in 2012, didn’t allow street parking during the month of April.

The prohibition is in place the rest of the year to allow snowplows to do their work, but city staff says April snows are less frequent and melt quickly.

The city is expecting to lose revenue from street parking infractions. Since 2013, fines have averaged more than $17,000 in the month of April.
