Ontario raised the speed limit on Highway 402 last week to 110 km/h from 100 km/h as part of a pilot project.

The higher speed limit applies to 90 kilometres of the 402 between Sarnia and London.

Two other highways are part of the pilot — the QEW from St. Catharines to Hamilton, and Highway 417 from Ottawa to the Quebec border.

The three road were chosen because they can safely handle higher speeds, require little or no upgrades, and have average interchange spacing of at least three kilometres, the province said.
