A $10-million revitalization will begin in March at the London Road Shopping Centre in March, says Sarnia-based Lucror Property Investments.

Centrepiece of the development will be a new furniture story for Tepperman’s, which announced this summer it was relocating from the Lambton Mall.

A greenspace, accessible walkways and electric-car charging station are also in the works for the former Zellers plaza.

President Rob Dawson said retailer expectations have changed since the London Road plaza was originally developed.

“We know our enhancements will satisfy these needs and draw new tenants,” said Dawson, who added “there’s really nothing quite like it in Sarnia.”

The Tepperman’s store will occupy 38,000 square feet and be about 20% larger than its current location, the company has said.

It will feature a coffee and beverage bar, credit kiosks and a ‘bargain annex’ for budget-minded shopping.

Construction is to begin in March 2017 with announcements of new tenants coming soon, Dawson said.

“We’ve been actively been working on recruitment since October 2015. With existing and new tenants, we’re at 75% occupancy for the expanded footprint,” he said, adding negotiations are underway for east and north parts of the property.

Potential additions include food, retail and professional services and a stand-alone building and patio for Crabby Joe’s.
