A contractor has been hired for the second round of city street resurfacing.

The tender awarded to Sarnia-based Sev-Con Paving for $966,000 will see Maxwell Street repaved between Indian Road and Kember Avenue, as well as Roger Street south of Maxwell, and the nearby Stacy Court.

Also getting new asphalt is Blackwell Sideroad, from Blackwell Road south to the West Drain.

Council approved a $3-million road budget this year, the largest in city history. It was split into two contracts to improve competitive bidding and help support contractors.

The first round included the recently completed west entrance to Canatara Park, and Afton Drive, which is currently under construction.

If money is left additional roads may considered, city staff said.
