The second round of aerial spraying for gypsy moths will take place Friday, weather permitting, Sarnia says.
Zimmer Air services will mist a 49.2-hectare area of the most severely infested north-end between 5:30 a.m. and 8:30 a.m.
The areas are north of Hollywood Place between Marcin Road and Newell Street, south of Michigan Avenue between Christina Street and Newell Street, Lakeview Cemetery, and Canatara Park.
The chopper will apply a biological pesticide that uses a bacterium found naturally in soil and registered under Canada’s Pest Control Act, the city said.
Members of the public are unlikely to experience health effects and no special precautions are necessary, City Hall said.
However, it’s recommended residents in the coverage zone bring indoors laundry, toys and pets, and cover barbecues or outdoor furniture.
It’s also recommend residents remain indoors for 30 minutes after spraying to allow for the droplets to deposit onto the tree leaves.
Brief road closures are expected while spraying is underway.
