Council grounded the dilapidated portable stage on wheels last week after receiving an estimate of $86,000 for needed badly structural repairs that would take months to complete.

The Showmobile, built in 1978, is not accessible to wheelchairs and lacks its own power source and audio system.

Last year it was used by 14 organizations and during Canada Day, Christmas on the Farm, Kids Funfest and on other major civic events.

But the show might yet go on - if money can be found during budget deliberations to buy a new one, councillors said.

A new portable stage is estimated to cost $175,000.
