The Sarnia Sting have signed highly rated first round draft pick Benjamin Gaudreau to an Ontario Hockey League standard player agreement.

Gaudreau played goal for the North Bay Trappers Midget AAA team this past season, posted a 1.13 GAA in 21 games and led North Bay to a league title.

Sarnia selected him 7th overall, making the 6’2” netminder the highest drafted OHL goaltender since 2002.

At the age of 15, Gaudreau suited up as the starting goaltender for Team Ontario at the Canada Winter Games, winning a silver medal.

“He is a big, athletic goaltender that moves calmly and efficiently around the crease,” said General Manager Nick Sinclair.

“We are thrilled to have him join our organization.”
