The Sarnia Spirit girls’ under-14 team was the division champion this year in the indoor Elgin Middlesex District Soccer League.

Playing at BMO Centre in London, the Spirit posted a record of 13 wins, 4 ties, and 1 loss.

The team, comprised of U13 and U14 players, was formed in September with the goal of improving the soccer skills of players in both age divisions.

Goalkeeper Cassidy VanPraet, backed by a solid defence, was the leading keeper with 7 clean sheets.

Ainsley Mackenzie (11 goals), Adriana Netskos (11 goals) and Savanah VanHooft (9 goals) led the Spirit offence.

The team trained in an academy-like program at Alexander Mackenzie Gym on Wednesday nights from October to March.

In addition, the Spirit U18 team was also successful in winning the U18 League in London.

The coaches involved in the training include goalkeeper coach Stuart Liverpool Jodrell, Paul Ritchie U15 coach, Steve LeBlanc Head Coach of the SGSC and Kevin Simmonds U13 coach.

Outdoor soccer begins in April.
