A Sarnia musician and filmmaker’s full-length documentary premiered at the prestigious Hot Docs At Home streaming platform.

Danny Alexander’s ‘No Ticket At The Door’ examines the devastating impact COVID-19 has had on Toronto’s once thriving indie musicians, promoters and venues.

“Despite its bleak subject matter, the film is ultimately about creative resilience,” he said. “My hope is that my film will inspire others to keep making art regardless of external conditions.”

Alexander was a key figure in Sarnia’s independent music scene and downtown arts revival. The music festival Empty Spaces, which Alexander created with Eric Woolston, was born when Artwalk and First Friday were young and the core was redefining itself as a cultural district.

Over the years, Empty Spaces and Empty Fest booked more than 150 live acts including such notable as Grimes, The Sadies and Mac DeMarco.

Alexander’s film can be viewed at https://boxoffice.hotdocs.ca. A membership is required.
