A 29-year-old Sarnia man faces an impaired by drug charge after a crash involving a fire hydrant and parked car, Wednesday.

Police say the vehicle was travelling at a high rate of speed while southbound on Cardiff Drive, south of Wellington Road.

"As the vehicle approached a bend in the road, it failed to negotiate the turn and headed off the road striking a fire hydrant, travelling across several front yards, and striking a parked car,” a news release stated. “Once officers attended the scene and investigated the matter further, the driver was arrested for operating a vehicle while impaired by drug.

“The accused was transported to the Sarnia Police Headquarters and evaluated by a Drug Recognition Expert.”

He faces one count of impaired operation by drugs, and had his license suspended for 90 days. The vehicle was impounded for seven days.

No one was injured during the incident.
