Sarnia-Lambton has for the first time been named one of the world’s “Top 7 Intelligent Communities.”

The designation, determined by an international team of analysts, is based on best practices in broadband deployment and use, workforce development, innovation, digital inclusion and advocacy.

Sarnia-Lambton will now compete for the title of Intelligent Community of the Year, to be announced June 11 -13 in New York City.

Making the finals shows how far the community has come the past several years to become a world leader in the use of information and communications technology, said Taskforce chair Chris Gould.

The competition includes cities from Canada, the United States, Taiwan, India, Australia, France, Kenya, and Russia.

Sarnia-Lambton made it to the final 21 Smart communities in 2016, 2017 and 2018.

The Intelligent Sarnia-Lambton Taskforce is comprised of members from the public and private sector, including Bluewater Power, Bluewater Regional Networks, Brooke Telecom, City of Sarnia, County of Lambton, Lambton College, Sarnia-Lambton Economic Partnership, and Western Sarnia-Lambton Research Park.
