A Sarnia weightlifter won a medal at the Pan Am Games last week.

Boady Santavy took silver in the men’s 96-kg division at the games in Lima, Peru.

The 22-year-old was successful in his first five attempts but finished behind Columbian Jhonatan Rivas Mosquera after coming up short on his lift at 215 kilograms.

Santavy won three bronze medals for Team Canada at the Pan American weightlifting championships in May, and won silver at the 2018 Commonwealth Games.

Before that he was an outstanding junior lifter, setting every Canadian junior and senior record at the 94-kilo weight class, as well as all the Commonwealth junior records.

His father and coach, Dalas Santavy, has said the goal is for Santavy to compete and contend for a medal at the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo, Japan.
