In 1972, the late Melvin Paradis received a telegram from the RCMP summoning him to appear before the Queen in Ottawa. This photo captures the moment when Her Majesty Elizabeth II presenting the Sarnia man with a medal for bravery. Paradis had rescued a child from a burning cottage in Bright’s Grove, then climbed back through a window and pulled out a second small child, his friend Bob Morrison said. Receiving a medal from a reigning monarch is an honour few Sarnians can claim. Photo courtesy Bob Morrison
