Residents bothered by fake police phone scam

Published on

Sarnia Police recently received a spate of calls from residents alarmed by an attempted phone scam.

Each had received a call from someone claiming to be from the Royal Canadian Mounted Police and stating that money was owed.

The individual on the phone instructs the person called to withdraw a large sum of money from their bank and deposit it into an account at a different bank.

No one from the RCMP, or any other police service, would call to say they are owed money, Sarnia Police say.

If you get such a call, do not provide personal information and simply hang up, police advise.
