Sarnia’s Relay for Life will be held for a 13th time on Friday the 13th.

But it will take money, not luck, to hit this year’s target of $300,000 to fight cancer.

The festival-like event at Clearwater Arena Park brings together friends, families, co-workers and cancer survivors for one night with a goal of raising money for cancer research and services.

“Relay For Life is the most rewarding and emotional event I have ever been a part of,” said fundraising co-ordinator Paula McKinlay. “Twelve hours, with over 1,000 people, together for the same purpose.”

Activities throughout the night of June 13-14 include hourly fun laps, the “luminary ceremony” of lighting of candles on the track, team talent contests and games for the kids.

Last year, 886 participants, 174 Survivors and 240 volunteers raised over $240,000 in Sarnia.
