Sarnia’s YMCA is now officially part of the YMCA of Southwestern Ontario.

Two regional YMCAs combined on Nov. 1 to create one organization serving an area from Windsor to Goderich, and Woodstock to Point Pelee.

CEO Andrew Lockie the decision wasn’t based on cost saving, but on a belief a unified Y could have a greater impact on local communities.

“Together, we’ll be able to serve more children, youth and families with an even stronger governance and operational model, including improved staff supports and opportunities,” he said.

The new organization will serve more than 190,000 people at nearly 200 locations and be led by a board comprised of former and new members, and an amalgamated leadership team drawn from the regional associations.
