The latest technology has been added to this flare stack at Nova Chemicals Corunna site to reduce smoke and improve reliability. The $9.5-million project replaced the flare tip — only the third of its kind in Canada — and required 34,000 man-hours and two cranes working simultaneously. Refineries use flare stacks to burn off excess hydrocarbon gases that can’t be recovered or recycled. Glenn Ogilvie
