Sarnia is redirecting $117,000 in provincial funding that the bylaw department received to cover the anticipated enforcement costs of legal marijuana.

The legalization of recreational cannabis in October of 2018 did not result in a significant rise in bylaw enforcement, so the money is moving to a Sarnia Police equipment reserve account, according to a recent staff report.

Police have been busier, and the money from the Ontario Cannabis Legalization Implementation Fund can be used for training and to purchase specialized drug testing equipment, the report says.
