Sarnia Christian School is preparing for another upgrade and expansion in 2019.

The construction project, to get started in the spring, includes new kindergarten classrooms and upgraded washrooms, as well as a number of project rooms for independent learners, said principal Len Smit.

“The final phase … will rejuvenate some older parts of the school and create new space for two more classrooms and a dedicated eating area.”

The work has an estimated completion date of fall 2020, and more than more than 80% of the $1.4-million needed has already been raised by school supporters, parents, businesses, he said.

In 2016, the 60-year-old private school at 1273 Exmouth St. unveiled a brand new open-air atrium, library, concert and assembly area, and a multi-purpose art room in the first phase of a project that allows students to learn arts and sciences in a non-traditional classroom environment.

“Our students and staff are now able to experience what 21st century education is all about,” Smit said.

Sarnia Christian offers junior kindergarten to Grade 8 and accepts students regardless of faith affiliation.

Tuition for its 130 students can be as high as $14,000 per family, but reduced through bursaries, grants, tax deductions and first-year discounts, officials say.
