City law enforcement has stepped up patrols and taken a zero-tolerance approach to “negative activities” at The Cove, located at the west end of Canatara Beach, Sarnia Police says.

Complaints have been received about intoxicated people, fights, loud music, trespassing, mischief and overdoses, police said.

The added police and bylaw enforcement includes the adjacent private beach behind the Sandy Lane apartment buildings.

This month, officers have issued tickets ($125) for open alcohol and assisted paramedics who responded to an unconscious man.

Police said the goal of the crackdown is to ensure safety and allow everyone a chance to enjoy isolated beach in a respectful manner.
