Point Edward is increasing water and sewer rates by 2.5% this year.

That will cost the average user about $12 annually, says village CAO Jim Burns. Water costs are rising to $1.33 per cubic metre from $1.30 and sewer rates are climbing to 87 cents per cubic metre from 85 cents.

Mayor Bev Hand said the village has worked to keep rates down despite large capital expenditures required to keep aging buildings and equipment viable.

Many big-ticket items were paid for over the past three years when rate increases were 3% - 5%.

The water and sewer budgets include $1.25 million for operations and $681,500 for capital costs this year.
