Point Edward has repatriated a piece of its history.

The village has purchased a 1939 Ford Bickle fire truck from a Michigan man, who for years had been driving it in shows and parades.

The village originally owned the classic vehicle, which still carries ladders imprinted with the words Point Edward Fire and Rescue.

“Over the years people from Point Edward have seen the truck at different parades and shows,” said Mayor Bev Hand. “One resident, in particular, had been trying to convince Mr. (Charles) Liles to sell the truck for some time. We were very excited when Mr. Liles contacted Chief MacKenzie to let him know he was ready to part with the antique truck.”

The vehicle has been well maintained, and though it needs a bit of maintenance is in good condition, MacKenzie said.

“We fully intend to continue to take excellent care of this truck.”

The fire department, which is researching its history, plans to replaces some of the decals with originals and use the truck for parades and public education.
