Sarnia residents are reminded that starting July 1 plastic bags can no longer be used for recyclables and yard waste.
Residents can still use blue boxes and bins up to 121 litres to recycle paper, glass, aluminum, and plastics coded #1,2,4,5 & 6 (#3 not accepted)
Blue boxes can be purchased for $7 at City Hall and Public Works.
Yard waste, including leaves, grass, and garden clippings, must be set out curbside in paper bags or open containers.
Containers can be any colour, except blue, and marked on two sides with an “X.”
Brush collection remains unchanged.
“Sarnia has transitioned to mulching leaves at all city parks, even at Oak Acres Park which has hundreds of mature oak trees,” said parks manager Patti Ross.
“Mulching improves grass quality, protects trees, and helps prevent weeds from growing.
