We can add this to Santa’s resume. He’s great with animals.

The Man in Red patiently petted and posed with 341 dogs, 25 cats, five ferrets, three hamsters, two pigs, two horses and a pony during Picture Your Pet with Santa day at DeGroot’s Nurseries last week.

The 20th annual event is a fundraiser organized by the Sarnia & District Humane Society for Wanda’s Wish, a fund for shelter animals to cover extraordinary medical costs and surgeries.

About 600 humans stood in line with their leashed and crated pets, and many wore festive hats and scarves, antlers, bells and the like.

Most of the four-legged visitors took to Santa quickly, but his beard and boots spooked a few.

Event co-ordinator Trista Lowe said the event raised $3,400 for animals in need.

“Next year it will be even bigger with a bazaar and a play area,” she said.
