Journal Staff
Bruce Smith is a Sarnia photographer who over the past two years has provided The Journal with a wide range of outstanding sport photos.
But he has another, even greater, passion – shooting fireworks displays, a sampling of which we’re happy to present here.
“I have been making fireworks photographs since I started making pictures more then 30 years ago,” Smith said.
“The hard part is, I have a limited time of the year when I can shoot (and it’s just) once a year.”
Smith has recently begun setting up two cameras at his location shoots up and down the St. Clair River.
The different lenses and angles provide a different take on each shot, he said.
An iPad is used to control the timing of one camera and he manually works the other.
“I see fireworks as very similar to sports photography,” he said. “You need to be prepared and you have a limited amount of time to make the shot – and then it’s gone!”
