Petition backs the rebuilding of Jackson Pool

More than 1,500 people have signed a petition asking Sarnia to rebuild Jackson Pool and have it operational by next summer.

More than 1,500 people have signed a petition asking Sarnia to rebuild Jackson Pool and have it operational by next summer.

A delegation represented by residents Michelle Parks and Darren Nesbit delivered the petition to city council recently, and urged councillors to save the East Street facility, which has been closed since 2015.

City staff proposed replacing the damaged 51-year-old swimming pool this summer with a less expensive splash pad and gathering place, but that idea has run into opposition from residents and some councillors.

Council has directed staff to hold both in-person and online public consultations to gather more on the two options.

The save-Jackson group believes it can raise the money to repair or replace the pool, but wants assurances City Hall will maintain it.

A final report will be presented to council prior to budget deliberations.
