Outdoor smoking ban in effect

Published on

As Sarnia’s festival and fair season heats up recent changes to Ontario’s smoking law are becoming noticeable.

As of Jan. 1, smoking was banned outdoors within 20 metres of sports fields and playgrounds and at all restaurant bars and patios, which includes anywhere food and beverages are available.

As well, seasonal fairs and festivals must provide a smoke-free experience for staff, volunteers, vendors and especially children.

“As a result smoking will be prohibited at the majority of outdoor events,” said Ashlyn Brown, of Lambton Public Health.
