Sarnia-Lambton has eight new cases of COVID-19 today, Lambton Public Health reported this morning.

Seven of the eight new cases are at Sarnia’s Vision Nursing Home, where an outbreak of the disease has been ongoing since April 23.

Twelve residents of the 146-bed long-term care home have now been infected, up from eight Wednesday.

Three additional staff member also tested positive, bringing the total to five.

Just a week ago administrators were optimist the outbreak would be declared over soon after going an extended period with no new cases.

Thirteen staff members, including three managers, have made the sacrifice of leaving their own families to live and work at the home while caring for elderly residents in the hard-hit Superior unit.

Sarnia-Lambton now had 212 confirmed cases with 17 deaths.

One more person has recovered, bringing the total to 147.
