Journal staff A local town hall meeting will be held via Zoom on Saturday, calling on the government to stop plans to privatize health care and ‘fix the crisis’ in local hospitals, the Ontario Health Coalition says. “Since last summer and continuing currently, Ontario has had almost 100 emergency department closures due to the staffing crisis,” the coalition said in a news release. “In addition, ICUs, maternity units and other vital services have been subject to temporary closures. "The Ford government has done very little to address the crisis in our local public hospitals and instead is using the crisis to push privatization of their services.”

In January, Premier Doug Ford announced plans to expand the use of privately run, for-profit clinics, or, independent health facilities, an effort to tackle long delays and backlogs in Ontario’s health care system.

The Sarnia-Lambton town hall, led by local coalition chair Shirley Roebuck, will be held Saturday, Feb. 18 at 10 a.m. Interested participants can register online and will be provided with a Zoom link. To register: visit https://us06web.zoom.us/meeting/register/tZwodeiprTksHdLOVMuIOV5yZF2x7Wy6c8lO
