The cross country team from Northern Collegiate had a strong showing against runners from all across Ontario at the Sinclair Highlands Invitational on Oct. 16.

The junior girls team finished second among 30 teams at the Highlands Nordic Centre near Collingwood running in cold, slippery conditions, with two members recording top 20 finishes in a field of 245 runners: Lauren Perkins (14th) and Caroline Forbes (19th).

The midget girls were equally impressive, finishing third among 19 teams with three members having top 50 finishes in the field of 192 runners: Kaylee White (20th), Madison Winegard (29th) and Mika Magtanong (32nd).

Four other Northern runners posted top 50 results at the event, which is a warm up for runners hoping to qualify for the Ontario high school championships.

Sarah Riser was 26th in senior girls, Andrew Davies 12th and Nick Forbes 27th in junior boys, and Ignacio Barreda was 48th in senior boys.
